The generation with the most to lose is tackling the climate crisis head-on, with help from a new member of Congress.
This February, WashPIRG Students joined our network partners at Environment Washington in traveling across the state to gather support for 100 percent clean electricity.
“We’re here to demonstrate the widespread student enthusiasm for renewable energy and Washington’s 100% Clean Electricity bill," said Kyra Woytek, one of the tour's student organizers. "We are concerned about the future we will inherit. With increasing wildfires, unhealthy air days, and extreme weather events, now is the time to act and start the transition to a 100 percent clean and renewable energy future.”
U.S. Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a leader in climate solutions at the state and federal level, joined WashPIRG Students in their call for action. The bill, at the request of Gov. Jay Inslee, would eliminate coal power by 2025 and require all utilities to be 80 percent clean by 2030.
