We keep producing and consuming more and more “stuff.” How can we do a better job of improving the quality of our lives? Our New Economy program is finding answers.
PIRG Consumer Watchdog
For more than 40 years, we’ve been educating consumers how to protect themselves and their rights. We fight to get dangerous products off store shelves, to end exploitative practices, and ensure a level playing field in the marketplace. And we advocate for new rules, institutions and policies to defend consumers from the economic and political power of special interests. Right now, our Watchdog team is focused on consumer threats from data breaches to dangerous toys.
Pledge to be Toxic-Free
Safe alternatives are possible and profitable.
Recalled infant sleepers
Every day, millions of kids are dropped off at child care facilities across the country by parents and caretakers who are looking forward to seeing them safe and sound at the end of the day. But new research found some dangerous recalled products are still in use at child care facilities across the country.

Stand Up For Repair
Microsoft pressed criminal charges against Eric Lundgren for printing restore disks that allow people to fix old computers—even though though the software on those disks is available online for free.
Stop The Overuse Of Antibiotics on Factory Farms
Widespread overuse of antibiotics on factory farms is putting our health at risk.
Stop the Puget Sound Gateway Boondoggle
More and more of us are moving off the roads. Yet our decision makers continue to prioritize new roads and wasteful highway expansions, even as other needs — from expanding public transportation to critical bridge repairs — go unmet. Across the country there are countless proposed highway projects, like the Puget Sound Gateway, that are not just expensive — they’re outright boondoggles. We need your help to stop it.
